Walk the Eco Trail to Sailors Hide and Christian’s Cave

Pitcairn Island, Adamstown area, Pitcairn Islands

This is the most complete single visitor walk on Pitcairn: a signed route through native and endemic flora, dramatic rock overhangs and historic stopping points that leads towards Sailors Hide before the climb up to Christian’s Cave. It is one of the clearest ways to understand the island’s landscape and oral history in one outing, combining scenery, geology and Bounty-era storytelling. The trail is also a practical introduction to how much of Pitcairn is experienced on foot rather than by vehicle. For visitors, it works especially well as a guided or self-guided half-day, depending on fitness, weather and the pace you want to keep. The route is one of the island’s signature experiences because it is both accessible in concept and richly layered in meaning, linking everyday island life with the best-known historic viewpoint on Pitcairn.
