Walk through Bergenhus Fortress

Harbour entrance, Norway

Walk through Bergenhus Fortress

Bergenhus Fortress occupies a prominent position at the harbour entrance, with stone buildings and open grounds that trace Bergen’s royal and military history. A walk through the site gives a useful contrast to the timber wharf nearby. Håkon’s Hall and the Rosenkrantz Tower add depth when their interiors are open, but they have separate visitor arrangements. Allow time to explore the grounds slowly and look back towards the harbour from this older edge of the city.
