A Hotel in Tokelau

Tokelau is not a conventional hotel market. Across Atafu, Nukunonu and Fakaofo, visitor stays are arranged around village approval, the supply ship from Apia, and a very small number of substantiated places to sleep. The government’s own visitor guidance says there is no established tourist industry, that accommodation is generally private or in village guest houses, and that the only named hotel it identifies is Luana Liki Hotel on Nukunonu. Because the evidence base is thin, this ranking is a visitor-facing guide to the few genuine places that can be substantiated, rather than a broad hotel scene. Each entry below reflects an actual Tokelau accommodation reference or an official village/government accommodation arrangement, with Tokelau’s access constraints kept front and centre.

  1. Luana Liki Hotel

    Nukunonu, Tokelau

Luana Liki Hotel is the only named commercial hotel substantiated by Tokelau Government visitor guidance, and it is the clearest fixed accommodation reference on the atolls. The official FAQs state that the hotel is on Nukunonu and note that accommodation there is arranged in advance through Tokelau contacts. That makes it the anchor property for any stay focused on Tokelau’s central atoll, where most visitor logistics still depend on the ship from Apia and local approvals rather than walk-up booking. For travellers, the practical appeal is not luxury but certainty: it is the one lodging option repeatedly identified in official Tokelau material. The hotel’s importance is editorial as well as geographic, because it is the only place in the territory described as a hotel by the government source currently surfaced in research, and it sits on the atoll most often used as the main visitor stop for inter-atoll movement and village access.

Placed first because it is the only clearly documented hotel in Tokelau’s official visitor information and the strongest substantiated accommodation listing. Advance arrangement is required for travel to Tokelau, and government guidance says accommodation and transport enquiries are handled through Tokelau contacts in Apia; this is not a walk-in destination.
