Boston rankings

Boston’s brick streets lead from Revolutionary landmarks to oyster bars, small galleries and the waterside. Beacon Hill has steep lanes and handsome townhouses; Back Bay opens into broad avenues beside the Public Garden. The Gardner Museum and Museum of Fine Arts make the city a serious art destination, while Fenway and Symphony Hall give evenings their own pull. Across the Charles River, Cambridge adds Harvard’s collections and a lively restaurant scene, close enough to visit from a Boston base.
