Seattle rises steeply from Elliott Bay, with ferries on the water and neighbourhoods spread across wooded hills. Pike Place Market anchors downtown with produce stalls, seafood counters and small shops; nearby, the waterfront leads to the aquarium and public art. Seattle Center brings the Space Needle and Chihuly’s glass together, while Ballard’s locks and the trails at Discovery Park show the city’s maritime and outdoorsy side. Downtown distances look short on a map, but the hills make themselves felt.
